IWWF World Waterski Championships and IWWF European Wakeboard Championships provide taste of what to expect in Doha

The IWWF hosted both its IWWF European Wakeboard Championships and IWWF World Waterski Championshipsthis month, with the world’s best athletes demonstrating the breath-taking skill that fans can expect to see at the ANOC World Beach Games Qatar 2019 in October.

The IWWF European Wakeboard Championships, which took place in Kyiv, Ukraine on 5-10 August at The Breakwater Club in partnership with MasterCraft Boat Company, 108 athletes from 16 countries competed for glory. The defending Open Women’s Champion, Sanne Meijer from the Netherlands, reclaimed her title followed by Alice Virag from Italy and Varvara Dolinina from Ukraine.

Massimiliano Piffaretti from Italy, the 2015 IWWF World Wakeboard Champion who has come back strong after sitting out last season having torn his ACL, won the Open Men Wakeboard title.

All these athletes are expected to be on show in Qatar in October.

Meanwhile, the IWWF World Waterski Championships, in partnership with Nautique, were held Putrajaya, Malaysia on 13 – 18 August with 134 athletes from 32 countries competing for individual and team overall medals. Among those to grace the podium was Hanna Straltsova from Belarus who won the silver medal in Women’s Jump and Women’s Overall and will be competing at the ANOC World Beach Games.
